logo-compose004BioModel is a biotic-GIS-experts-group on biodiversity modelling [BioticGeoinformation Science] with applying special GIS- and RS-based statistics techniques, indicators, indices, remote sensing and field survey data, archives. We are the IT-group of Ukrainian Land and Resource Management Center (ULRMC). Additional info on BioModel is available at related sub-pages i.e. Area and Projects

vprydatkobiomodel Vasyl Prydatko – since 2002 (and currently), Senior Specialist of the International Association ‘Ukraine Land and Resource Management Center – ULRMC’. The field of interests include ‘biotic-bioinformatics-science’ i.e. programming, digitizing of life in GIS- and RS-based environment, applying other IT-techniques to support rendering public and private sector decisions, both in Ukraine and abroad. The experience includes: i) Associated Professor at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (2007-2009, 2013), ii) Senior Scientist at the Environmental Research Institute of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (1999-2001), ii) Head of the Land and Biodiversity Conservation Department of the Ministry of the Environmental Protection and Nuclear Safety of Ukraine (1993-1999). As the ULRMC team member he coordinated/coordinates and manage implementation of international and regional IT-sound projects (WB, Altarum, Nansen University Fellowship Program – UFP, USAID, UNDP, GEF, NEAA, PBL, MNP etc.) His carrier story started at the Wrangel Island Reserve [Wrangel and Herald Islans] in 1978, and after he participated in other scientific expeditions in the Eastern and Western Arctic. The expert received the Ph.D. Certificate in Biology from Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NASU 1n 1986, and the M.S. in Biology&Zoology from the Taras Shevchenko National University, Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1977.

gkolomytsevbiomodel Grygoriy Kolomytsev, Researcher of the I.I.Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IZ NASU). He is an external expert at the ULRMC, involved in biotic-related activity of this institution. Since 2009, he is a PhD student at the Taras Shevchenko National University, Kyiv. His professional interest includes application of GIS approaches in biology: spatial analysis, biodiversity assessment using indicators, species habitat change analysis, niche-based species distribution modelling. In 2006-2007 and in 2011, he participated in IT-trainings on pressure-based-biodiversity modelling, MSA and GLM application at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) at the University of Twente (the Netherlands). Since 2013 he participates german governmental fellowship programme named after Klaus Toepfer for future nature conservation leaders. In 2004, he holds an M.S. in Biology&Zoology from the Taras Shevchenko National University, Kyiv, Ukraine.

The biodiversity modelling methodology is now applied in many countries over the world. However, the step from local institutes to actual application at policy level remains large. One of the steps to increase political awareness of the model is to distribute the knowledge more widely among institutes within the countries. Workshops and courses contribute to this effort but a manual will have a more long lasting effect. At MNP I am also working on an English manual about the implementation of the GLOBIO3 and CLUE methodology on national scale. Once the first draft is finished I will send it to you for exchange of information and to improve our work.

Keep up the good work!

We will put respective reference to the textbook. Regional students, decision makers (ecologists) etc. must know about the MNP’s manual of 2008.
